How to make a QR code
- Paste your link (or any text) into the box above.
- Choose a size. Medium works for most uses; pick Large if you're printing it big.
- Keep the code dark on a light background for the most reliable scanning.
- Click Download PNG, or Copy image to paste it straight into a document.
Tips for printing a QR code at an event
- Make it big enough. Aim for at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) square on a table card, and larger on a sign guests scan from a distance.
- Keep the blank border. The white margin around the code helps phones find it, so don't crop it off.
- Use strong contrast. Black on white is safest. Pale colours or a busy background can stop it scanning.
- Test before you print. Scan it with an iPhone and an Android phone, then print one copy and scan that too.
- Say what it does. A short line such as "Scan to share your photos" tells guests why they should scan it.
Use it for event photos
A QR code is the easiest way to get guests to share photos at a wedding, birthday, stag do or hen do. Create a free AllShare gallery and you get an upload link and a ready-made QR code. Guests scan it and upload straight from their phone, with no app and no account. If you'd like to know more first, read what a QR code is, or see how it works for free wedding photo sharing.
Frequently asked questions
Is this QR code generator really free?
Yes. There's no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many codes you make.
Do the QR codes expire?
The code itself never expires, because it simply contains the link you entered. It will work for as long as the page it points to stays online.
What should I put in a QR code?
Most people use a web address. You can also enter plain text, such as a message or a phone number.
What does "Extra durable" do?
It adds more built-in backup data to the code, so it can still be scanned if part of it is scuffed, creased or covered. It makes the code slightly more detailed, so use it for small prints or anything that will get handled. For a normal-sized print or on-screen use, you can leave it off.
Is the link I enter stored anywhere?
No. The code is generated in your browser, and the link you type is never sent to us.
